The name “Brillaner” merges the surnames of its two members, who are a couple not only on the concert stage: Shirley Brill and Jonathan Aner. But it also has connotations of “brilliance” – a not unintentional association. Because the two young musicians’ playing is indeed brilliant – and that’s an understatement, concur both reviewers and expert juries. After winning the Possehl Music Prize in 2003, they were received with open arms on international stages, and in 2005 Duo Brillaner brought out its debut CD. Both these musicians were born in Israel, but did most of their studying in Germany: Shirley Brill comes from Sabine Meyer’s talent factory in Lübeck, and received the “finishing touches” at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Her ideally matched partner studied in Hanover and Lübeck. They have been making music together since 1999, and this is their first appearance in the Rheingau!
