»Rendezvous with…«

Menahem Pressler
Between the stage and
the auditorium, the players and the public, there is usually a carefully
calculated distance. Sometimes, however, concert-goers want to find out more
about the musicians than is revealed by the biographies printed in the
programme, and to get better acquainted with them than is possible through the
lenses of opera glasses. An opportunity that comes around all too rarely. The
Rheingau Music Festival is providing precisely this opportunity on three
evenings: »Rendezvous with …« is the
new series, in which selected artistes drop in on music presenter Katharina
Eickhoff for an informal chat, with the audience close at hand. The venue
itself also contributes towards an intimately private atmosphere: specifically
for these chat shows, the Rheingau Music Festival is opening the doors of the
winery that nowadays serves the RMF as an office, and is hosting the event in
the former wine-press hall. Space is available for 100 guests and a grand piano
for some spontaneous music-making. Over some shared glasses of fine wine, you
can wind down the evening in the gardens, and continue your animated
conversations. Big names in a small venue: the conductor Christoph Eschenbach,
the percussionist Martin Grubinger and the pianist Menahem Pressler are the
pioneers of this new format! On the eve of their appearances on the large
festival stage, they will be guesting at a »Rendezvous« with our audience.
